Just driven from the north of England, through France and into Spain without any problems. But while driving through Spain to the south, the electrics would sometimes die for a second, the engine would cut out then everything would resume without any intervention. The weather has been 30C so I was wondering if this has some bearing on the problem.

The first thing to check would be the battery and the connections to it.

I've also heard of behaviour like this in the context of a problem with a power distribution unit in the e-box. It's basically a black plastic box of relays about 80mm x 80mm x 30mm, and I believe some of the soldered joints can dry out and cause intermittently bad connections. I guess heat might cause expansion and make a poor connection worse?

If you take the lid off the e-box you can just about see it buried beneath a couple of other units. On my car it's called the Integrated Supply Module, and the part number is 12527510638. It looks like they cost north of £100, so it would be good to confirm with diagnostics first.
