Ive come accross a few E60's with rattling front seats.

Customers complain it to be from the head rest but its actually from the headrest tube in the seat , that the headrest slides into (the one that you depress the button to remove the headrest).

If you remove the headrest and look inside the tube, right at the top you will see the roller pin that locks the head rest in place. This is the cause of the rattle.

Rather than replacing the tube (because it will just rattle again in time) you can carry out the following fix.

Apply a small dab of grease to the end of a small screwdriver and apply it to the roller within the tube.

Rattle cured.

Please let me know if other vehicles are affected by this and if you find this useful.

If your vehicle is in warranty, please contact a main dealer rather that carrying out this fix.

Would spray silcone grease do any good?
My e46 has a rattle and after reading your post i held the passenger head rest and sure enough it stopped! Cant be holding it whilst driving the whole time though so ill have to fix it!

hi there i have this same issue with the headrest on my 325ci e46. but its electric do you know how to get the headrest off?
