Hi

Im due for my 1st service on a E60 525d. Ive been quoted £235 upwards for the service. (Williams and Haliwell Jones)

So can anyone recommend where the best garage in the North West is to get my service carried out at a good price please.

Obviously the garage needs to be approved so that I keep the warranty.

Thanks for the help in advance

Baz, you can save a lot of money on the dealer price by looking at whats included and the costs.

For example, screenwash, just fill up before you go.

Oil, they will be charging c£14/litre. Buy your own and hand it over to them. I do and it saves me about £65 at service time.

And then, don't be afraid to ask for a discount on the labour.

Yeah baz, in addition to what Mark says, shop around dealers (if you wanna stick with them) as customer service and labour rates vary wildly.

You can still go to an independant BMW specialist and keep your warranty, check the independant agrees with this.

Baz, do you know if you car is due for it's 3rd service or perhaps 6th? I got stung with this at my dealers and every 3rd service is a mandatory fuel filter change.

Don't be afraid to haggle with them on price. Red :)

One of the most expensive part's with regards to an oil service will be the microfilter...another thing to look at if you can get it on the cheap.

Ok guys.

Well its the 1st service as I said. So how much have you paid for your 1st Service?

I could easily do it myself as I like to tinker around with my other car etc (Skyline). Ill call up the dealer and ask for a break down of parts and labour. Ill get them to remove the oil, windscreen wash and the mirco filter to see what the cost will be.

I need to no what oil to buy and how much, and does anyone have a part number for this micro filter?
My car is a 56 plate 525d.

Finally can anyone tell me some Independant garages in the the North West, Liverpool area would be great.

Cheers

May not need microfilter thats a service item on its own, I work for BMW and customer cant bring own oil use to not any more. 1st oil serv is oil and filter change only poss micro filter if req and may even req brake fluid as yours is 2yrs old. most service item that req changing are mileage or time dependent which is 2yrs. You should have bought it with service package plus even get pads and discs in on it.

Not sure i know we do ours or nothing. Just that if using a different grade/not recommended oil and engine probs nothing to do with us. We may let you but will have to sign saying something before carry out work.

Looks like I will be going to an independant garage I no. They recommended I buy a service pack from BWM which will allow me to keep the so called warranty which is left in tact without to much fuss.
Does anyone do this?

Shaft, how will I no if it needs the microfilter?

Ha, I cant beleave the car is now 2 years old (just), Ill have a look at the brake fluid, dout ill change it as the brakes are very good at the mo.

As for the extra service pack I was unsure, I cant remeber the price but I thought Id be best just taking it as it comes. I wasnt planning on traveling loads of miles and 15,000 in 2 years is low enough for me.

Many independent places will get BMW parts and fit them to keep the BMW warranty, as for the microfilter it should be pretty white, if it's really dirty then it wants a new one.

I wouldn't take it to either williams or halliwell- both have very poor reputations and they're a rip off and they have crap customer service..... I take mine to http://www.newhallcars.co.uk/

very friendly, give you the time of day, actually want your custom and smart show room/ facilities, very reasonably priced, courtesy car provided- what more could you want????
Good Luck:thumbsup

Hi You could give these a call. They just quoted me £291+vat for an inspection 2 service on my 525 using all BMW approved parts.

Also just found these http://www.fieldlanegarage.co.uk/ who are local to me, in fact just around the corner. They have some good reviews on the internet have emailed them for a quote for an inspection 2 service will post price when they reply.
