Hi,
Why are the rears (8.5J) of genuine MV wheels fitted with 35 Profile tyres when the fronts are 40?

Could you fit 235/40 tyres without any problems?

Yes,

255/35/18s and 225/40/18s will have a similar overall rolling circumference and diameter.
the profile (35 or 40) isnt in millimeters, its a portion of the width of the tyre i think.

a 235/40/18 will be very slightly larger actual profile than a 255/35 so itll pick the back end up by a couple of millimeters.





oh the extra width on the back will help traction a lot, and I think that 255s on the front would be bad for steering, 225 is easily wide enough I would say

255/40 18

the 255 is the nominal width of the tyre in mm

the 40 is the height of the sidewall expressed as a percentage of the tyre width

and the 18 is obviously the wheel diameter in inches


therefore a 255/35 tyre will have a sidewall height of 89.25mm

and a 235/40 tyre will have a sidewall height of 94mm
