Afternoon all.
At home I have 2 Vibe 12" subs, amps and a power cap out of a previous car. The plan was to put all of this or most of it into my BM. I went to a nearby ICE specialist to see what they would recommend. I have been told that because I have leather interior I won’t hear much of the bass coming from the subs in the boot because the leather is a very good sound insulator. The only way to get the bass into the car would be to port it through the ski hatch. Is this true??? Also it was advised that I could plumb in the subs to the original head unit but an aftermarket head unit would be better to do this but not sure whether i like the look. Any advice would be great. Pics of after market head units in the car would be good and installs as well.

Cheers

there was a sub box in my e36, i took it out as the boot aint exactly cavernous as it is and the standard speaker setup was good enough for me!
but what your ice guy says sounds plausible.
at the end of the day,its your car and if thats what you want then go for it :p

Also mate i had the same subs in my E46 coupe but had to sell them because they do not fit in the convertible. Ive now got a 10" pioneer competition sub which is such a better sound in my opinion. 2500w peak, 800w rms so more powerful then the two vibes in a small package. this sub and a decent box cost me £145 but well worth it. Ive got a JL Amp(Silver one in pic) running my front speakers and my Vibe slick A7 running the sub, I attached this amp to the sub box so more room, not that i use the boot.

Hope these pics are of some help.

Cheers for the feedback both.
Could you point me in the right direction for finding one of those ports for the ski hatch.
And also what work was involved in installing it, what bits are butchered?

I was thinking of building the boot floor up a little and then sinking the subs into the floor with the amps on the right hand side and maybe the power cap on the left. But will think about that stelth box, have seen them on the net and look quality. If you've got any pics of your install mate would be good to see?!

Sounds like their talking rubbish - probably in an effort to get you to spend money at their shop.
Leather a good sound insulator? :lol

Bass will cut through anything - think about it, noise from next doors party, at a concert while in the toilets. What can you hear? Bass.

i use a stealth box because i use my car alot and need boot space, it gives alot of bass with or without the rear seat cover on the back seats, i will eventually build a housing for a sub into the rear seat with the sub showing in the car but i can only use a 10 inch for that one, i'm thinking maybe an 8 inch jl w7 sub would be good but i need to hear one first. theres a shop in bristol that is selling a custom made double 10 inch sub that fits under the roof box and ports in through the rear seats, i heard one which had 2 diamond subs in it, sounded awsome but took up too much space. they sell the box for £75 and if i didnt need my boot i would have bought one ages ago.

p.s if i get a chance i'll pm you some pics of my setup.
