If you mess with the restraint module, then I think you will probably see future problems. One flaw I see in having this...the SRS system is active on the passenger side even though there is no passenger, so even a slight impact on your side will set off passenger bags as well..and I know they are quite expensive to replace :frown

I know what your saying, any thing off ebay is usually dodgy. But the chances are if my bags go off then my car will be a write off any way so would it be such a problem? or does any 1 know if you can change the sensor your self? im no elctrician but im pretty good with me hands. i havent approached a garage for a repair cost yet as all the ones around me are just rubbish back street and this would be fairly specialist i guess.
thx alot for your replys guys i appreciate it

No problem mate :)
I would get a price for the sensor and find a local seat trimmer to install it for you. IIRC you have to remove the seat base trim :confused
I have trimmed a seat before and wouldnt recommend DIY if you havnt done it before.
Its not a job i would do my self again :frown
Also, have you had the wiring to the sensor checked? I had a compact in last year and the same fault as yours came up, it turned out to be broken wiring to the sensor from where the seat gets slid back and forward.
I think BMW do a wiring repair loom as well.
It worth chaecking that first. :thumbsup

The seat mat works by measuring the weight on it and fires the airbag accordingly, all that Ebay part is is a resistor that matches a known ohm value that the Airbag ECU is looking for.

The Airbag will still fire but if you are carrying a child you may break their face due to the seat thinking it has a heavy object on it. :D
