Hello,

This is my first post here so sorry if I break any rules!

Essentially, I have a 2005 BMW E46 318CI coupe. I do love it!

But to me... The revs seem to be sitting really high - not whilst idling but when driving places like the motorway or national speed limit roads... Seems to be screaming out for a 6th gear!

At 70 on the motorway it's sitting at about 3,250 revs... Drinks fuel like that!

Just wondering if it's normal? Photos attached for reference.

Thanks all!

Sounds about right. You are going to burn a lot of fuel at that speed. The amount you waste will depend on how efficiently your car is running. That's pretty much the case whatever speed you are doing. There are ways you can figure that out if you are interested. But for optimum fuel efficiency when motorway driving you should keep your speed to 56 mph.

Great, thanks for the advice! How do you figure it out?

The revs just surprised me for a 2L engine!
