I have been reading about the engine in my 1999 316i (I think its an M43TU) and i have read that it is a de-tuned version of the 318i.

What has been done to de-tune it, and how easily can i get the power of a 318i into my 316i?

hey m8..just try goin on the net and look up car tuners(chip..re-maps..etc)and giv the a fone for advice if no-one hear helps you out..probably find that most will tell you.,,you would need too get a diagnostic too start with and take it from ther.

Cheers for the response mate. I was hoping that it wpuld go something like, "Just get a 318i ECU off ebay"

I don't want to spend a lot, but wondered if there was an easy 10% or so to add!

Having just read another post regarding the M43TU engine, i'm guessing the extra 10% isnt really available easily.

Do anyone know what the differences are between the 316i 1.9 and the 318i 1.9 are then?

Yeah, thats what im after too, my old e36 316 was a 1.6 litre that gave out 102 bhp and my e46 1.9 is giving out 105 bhp, there must be more somewhere?
