Hi to all,

I have just tried to fix what I assumed would be a broken bulb on the offside main beam (inner headlight) only to discover that the connector was unplugged.

As I have only just got the car I think a previous owner must have unplugged it.

The problem is that when I plugged it back in the light came on yippeee i think cured! Until I switched off the headlights and the bloody thing stayed ON!

Any ideas on why anyone?

BTW I forgot to mention that the light stays on even with keys out and no switches on!

So one high beam light works ok, comes on when switched on and goes off when switched off, but the other is just on all the time?
As far as I know, this model of car uses a light control module which controls all the lights.
In that case there may be a fault in the module.
Some of these modules respond to disconnecting the battery for a period of time to reset them, but I'm not sure if it will work with this one.
Someone else may come along with more knowledge of this.

I would like to try that, but does disconnecting the battery have any knock on effects to the sound system?

I have noticed there is a section on the screen (mine has the TV/SatNav option) that says Code and I don't know it if it has one. Does it need a code after reset?

It may do. Like I said it may not be the answer anyway. I'm sure someone will see your post and be able to give you an answer soon. I would wait to be sure in case you need the code.:thumbsup

I've done a bit of searching on google then Pm'd one of the other guys on here and it does seem as if the LCM (light control module) may be faulty. It doesn't look as if it could be reset easily by disconnecting the battery. You may need to speak to a BMW specialist.

I think the code part is an option for you to enter a code to prevent the car being started if someone gets the keys.

Hi again,

I have not fixed the original problem but I wonder if I have discovered another symtom?

When the side lights are on they flicker slightly, this is both sides and they do it all the time, and its not the bulbs going as I have changed them both for new ones!

Could this be the dreaded Lamp control unit?

Doesn't sound great, unless there's a bad connection somewhere. I would think a good BMW independant garage may be able to read the fault codes from the module with a diagnostic check

Hi mate,

Just read a thread on another site and it says the symptom is caused by the LCM and is a common problem! There is even a link to the Bentley manual LCM repair section that givews details of how to fix it! So looks like I'll be soldering soon.
