i am looking at buying an E36 328i coupe for the mrs, whats the difference if any between this and the 325i engine wise (apart from the obvious 300cc) anything to look out for especially with these? thanks :thumbsup

The 328 pulls better from low revs but IMO runs out of puff at the top of the rev range.
The 325 flys over 3000rpm and keeps pulling.
Both are excellent and i would be pushed to choose between the 2

the 2.5 is the sweetest 6 pot ever produced by bm
the 2.8 is torquier but has a hint of gruffness above 4k
neither is the 'better' engine...both have their points

<98 328i's also suffer from Nikasil issues. Whilst back in the day BMW did replace the blocks on >97 cars, you'll probably be hard pushed to find a pre 98 model thats had this done.

I went for the 328i as its more scarce, therefore a bit more special. Yolu see lots of 316/318/320/323s about, but the 325i's are becomming less common, but there's more of them still about than the 328i.

if you get a late model e36, ie mid 98 on, they used steel liners in the 323i engines. you can check this with bmw if you have the chassis number of the car, they will lell you wether it has steel liners or nicasil.
