6 points, more if there were other offences committed. Mate of mine was in a similar scenario a while back and also got another 3 points for illegal tyre.

I was done for no insurance (amongst other things:embarrassed) before i passed my test, i was given 8 points and £240 fine, that was about 8 years ago.

It taught me a lesson, when you're trying to get insurance when you've just passed your test and you've got 3 convictions on your license, you get some 'interesting' quotes:hihi

Did they impound your car??

Deffo 6 points.

Sorry to hear mate but like you said you know what you were doing the risks etc :( really sucks.

Insurance is something you cant get away with - in my area they have guns in most the cop cars that auto scan the reg plates and it comes up almost immediately and you get pulled. :(

eforty6 - i know its wrong but ive done it too! lol

Ive had a clean license till I got the points. I got 6 points and a £525 fine which rounded up to £600 with the court fees etc. I didnt attend court as I was at sea (Royal Navy), so they just gave it to me in my absence.

My insurance has obviously gone up but im only paying about £650 fully comp with 1 yrs NCB and driving since Dec 2000.

many moons ago I got had for 8 points and cant remeber the money it was so long ago, but what I do recall was the pain over the coming years of insurance, so if you got a clean licence and first thing all that stuff, thats how it 'should' go

Hope your friend will be doing all the driving for you to make up for it. :thumbsup
Stuck in town with nowhere to go?
No buses?
Taxi?

Surely a quick phonecall to any insurance company would have got you covered with a cover note and on their records? :sarcastic

For what it's worth, around 1995-1996, I initiated a craze in school of people nicking their own (and other people's) parents' cars.

Unfortunately, I ended up getting caught out by ******* CID and got prosecuted for no insurance and no licence (too young to have one).

I only got 3 points for each offence and fines totalling 300 quid.

Damn those busybodies.
Why can't they leave us alone and go after the criminals.

I got pulled for speeding (100 in a 70) in a mates car picking a lad up who was stuck, wasn't insured. Luckily I was totally cooperative and knew my mates name and address, so pretended to be him and got away with it (there were no comebacks for him either).

Then an NIP came through for 35 in a 30 (me again, same car) but as he sold the car by the time that came through I went to mag's court and told them that I had sold the car before the offence for scrap value and made up a name (which came back as someone who didnt exist. Case was thrown out due to insufficient evidence from the Police.
I'd say the evidence is right here.

Pretty lucky really, your options are none existant when you are pulled (unless its insured by someone that isnt you).

Goto the Pepipoo website (google it). Its a forum for stuff like this, they'll try and help you out.
Can't believe you just published that! :hihi

With regards to the insurance - loads of people have indicated the fines/points... But when it comes to re-insuring, try Adrian Flux, as they are specialist they can be good for convicted drivers.

Mainstream will probably decline. Its not the end of the world :thumbsup , you live and learn. You're lucky you didn't hit someone... Don't do it again!! Pushes everyone's premiums up in the long run!

thanks guys, it was about 3am, no way i could have phones up an insurance company then, and tbh i didnt even think about it. i was more concerned about him getting to mine. the 6 points will put me back to learner status right  then is it just a matter of passing my tests again? would the insurance companies know for a fact that you have an offence? after i pass my test?

Think it will be recorded on the counterpart of your DL, most companies ask for a copy when you take insurance, besides if you have endorsements and dont declare them it will probably void your insurance mate
