Hey guys,

My e60 530d 2006 has lost power and gear changing doesnt seem right either. Today I took it to a mechanic and it showed 77 at idle and 277 at 2000rpm pressure. I was told the dpf needs terracleaning plus the car needs a new glow plus and head. Does this so called Terra cleaning work?

Thanks

Is the engine warming up properly? Your DPF seems quite heavily blocked but most likely it can be regenerated open if other requirements are fulfilled. With diagnostics set regeneration request active and while steady 60-80 km/h driving keep erasing the code for too high back pressure.

As above but I would advise you to drive the car normally at 75-80mph (if you drive at a lower speed and you go up a hill it this will stop the regen as the exhaust temps will drop) clear the codes as your driving
Check the engine temps should be over 88 degrees and make sure you have a full tank of fuel

What ever you do DO NOT HOLD THE CAR IN A LOWER GEAR AND HOLD THE REVS UP

If your car will not regen you will need to take it to a specialist who know how to look at these on a much deeper level

We have managed to regen these dpfs when they have over 800mb of back pressure

After the temps have risen I've found that with heavily blocked DPF a bit slower speed works better because on higher speed the back pressure even on steady load goes over the limit and throws error code stopping the regen. After the worst block has cleared you can raise the speed and continue regeneration longer periods without erasing fault codes.

Lower RPM driving hold the temps higher.
I had the warning on my Idrive before. Replaced both thermostats and let it do 2 forced regens and it was fine after that.

I know one of the glow plugs is not working but I could see the engine temp gauge shows it to be in the middle so maybe both the thermostats are working?

A non working glow plug won't prevent regeneration. There is no coolant temp gauge on E6x. Coolant temp has to be checked from cluster hidden menu or with diagnostics. 75 C is the limit for regeneration, usually temp is near 90 C.

Ok thanks guys so should I go for this TerraCleaning or just get the forced regen thing and that will sort it out?

If you have a problem with the ecu not seeing the correct data then it will block up again

We do around 5 Re generations a week including pinpointing why the dpf did not regen in the 1st place

There is no point in just cleaning the dpf if the problem has not been fixed 1st that stops the regen
