DME EWS Alignment issue

Sorry for another thread, been raking though the forum to try and find info that could help me but as a last resort here is a little cry for help!

INFO:

have just done and engine swap in a 96 316i, have instaled a 95 m52 2.8

DME = From 328i
EWS/keys/ rest of the loom mostly untouched from the 316i

Bought a data head from ebay to help me with this, Im able to read info from both DME and EWS, also able to clear error codes turn on fuel pump and things like that. SO i believe that i am "pluged in" Have used the EWS-DME alignment part of the package but st still docent start, throws a ews incorrect password error on the DME error memory. I have also tried setting the ISN number manually: reading it from the DME coding screen and writing it to the EWS, still no luck.

I have kind of hit a brick wall, im not sure if im doing somehting wrong, the ews and dme are not comptable or perhaps the DME is faulty?

I know the EWS and the rest of the car loom is fine as i had a running. the DME and the engine loom are another matter, not seen the engine running...

And help would be great!

You send the Ecu someone like us to have the ews complete removed

Thanks for the offer, but as this is a road car for security reasons i would like the ews to be functional.

Look in the ECU page, rather than the EWS page.
Some ECUs had an auto align feature as one of the main menu options.

Thanks for the advise. Had a look at there weere several ews/dme align options tried them all still no luck.

Thinking back i may have damaged the EWS... when stripping the car i hooked up a battery charger to power the car when the engine was out. i had a little accident... charger was on 24v..

Saw a dme/ews/key package from a 328i coupe on ebay.. hopefuly this will save a bit of agro.

Sorry if I read you first comment wrong but reads like you have the ews and loom, key etc from the 318.
Shouldn't it be the loom ews etc from the 328?
Apologies if that's what you meant and have done

SOLVED:

OK To clear up what i had:

DME - 328i
Engine loom - 328i
Car loon - 316i
Ews/key - 316i

I went and bought a matched DME, EWS, key, transponder & antena from ebay

After alot of testing i found out that the DME that i origionaly bought was a DUD

SO now have (running car):

Engine loom - 328i
Car loom - 316i
DME/EWS/Key - 328sport

Now i have spare(tested and working with new DME after aligned) EWS/Key/transponder/antena

and this : BMW 20PIN MALE TO 16PIN Auto Car Diagnostic Tool Cable | eBay

Be warned though if your good with computers you will find this tool a nightmare to setup

Have a 328 convertible 1996 cranked but no start need help bad replaced bad dme with one off of eBay bypass the ews got fuel but no spark
