Hi was wondering if i buy a key off ebay that has a new blank chip fitted to it what do i need to do in order to get the vehicle started.
I assume that after cutting the new key and programming the remote the lock/unlock function will work ok but when i try to start the engine nothing will happen as the chip is blank.
Car is only been supplied with one key and dealers want loads of cash.
Not sure of model as car is being delivered to my neighbour who has just bought it and has no pc access so that is why i am asking but car is about 2005 and the key is like a diamond shape.
I have found a photo of what looks like the key in question if its any help to you.

Dealers will want £100 for a diamond shape key, you can get a cheaper key that won't have central locking buttons though.

That blank will not start car like you say. Only the dealer can sort out the chip for you.
