Hi Guys
just finished a chilly trip through slovenia and austria in temp around -5 to -10 c
as mentioned earlier the heater system wasnt doing anything warm unless climbing a steep slope
went to my trusty indy and got the temp reading
water temp hardly 50 deg c
so after replacing the stat last year with a gates unit ( oem fitment ) it failed again wide open
so i have to start all over again
it seem that these cars do use pretty duff parts suppliers
never had anything this with any of the mondeos...
apart from that it seems to run ok, until the next part fails...

I think it seems worse as the main stat is such a pain to change. If it were easier to get to, spending £40 odd on a new one wouldn't be so bad.
No wonder there is so much interest in the additional in-line stat mod so many fit.

Seems to me 60k miles is about the norm for them to fail, pretty poor as I have had the odd one or two to fail on other cars but the BMW is a definite.

Behr is oem.
I had a gates in my 520d and it failed due to a cracked plastic piece that holds the metal thermostat.
Bought proper stat from the dealer and no more problems.
