I've got an '04 318i which won't start with one of the keys (the other one is fine): I can un/lock, the instruments lights come up, but when I try to start the engine nothing happens - no click, no noises, nothing. Some days it works, though.

Is this a sign the key's battery needs replacing, or could be something else?

Yes. The behaviour is occasional but since it's the wife's key I need to make sure she doesn't get stranded (of course we could share my key instead)
