I have BMW X5 2013. Somebody broke the driver key door lock yesterday night. In the morning I found the doors open.
Now, the car does not respond to keys. There is no door response as well as the start does nothing when key is put in. I can switch on the indoor and main lights.
The dashboard shows Power break light only for few seconds when I press the brake peddle. There are no other lights on dashboard. The Glove box apartment as well as boot door does not operate. There is a bing sound when I press the glove box button but no response.
I am wondering what may have happened here ?
Is it the keys [But I use one key and other is reserved and wonder how both are dead in one go] or is it the battery or something else ?

May just be loss of synch with the keys as a result of whatever happened during the break-in. Try resynching the keys but there may be some fault codes recorded in the EWS which will need to be cleared first.

Thanks for your reply.
Is there any specific method to Re-Synch or I need to carry both keys to the dealer ?

Just a thought, as you came out this morning and the doors were open, perhaps your vehicle battery is now flat as the interior lights would have been on.
Cheers

Check the battery is not flat
If it’s ok then probably someone has tried to make a key for the car
If your only key doesn’t work then they have changed the key data so they could make a key with a key they have
Buy a steering lock disc type for the car ASAP
I’ve seen this many times before

It looks like battery is flat. I have put the heel disc lock for now.

Assuming that the battery isn’t flat if your car has the convenience access package(can be identified by three small lines on the top of either door handle)if it does and the handle was damaged as you stated then you would need to locate the convenience access module and unplug it this should let the car recognize the key again
