I brought a gear selector and replaced it on my bmw X5 e70 2007, today I went to the bmw to have a soft wear update and they have told me it can’t be done because the gear selector isn’t programmed to my car but the previous one. Is it not prossible to reprogramme a second hand gear selector? Can someone advise me please

As VIN doesn't match it can't be programmed with dealer measures. But the part should work even without coding/programming.

Ok thanks So the only way to do it then is to buy a brand-new one and have it programmed to the car. Yes the secondhand one does work fine they just can’t do the update. What would you do not bother having the update or by the new one
