Hi all,
I have a BMWX5 2007 , driven 70K miles. The dashboard started showing "Engine oil pressure too low; Engine damage possible" and engine making a rattling noise all the time.

Here are some photos and recording of the car and engine with the rattling sound.

When trying to startup the car to take to the BMW mechanic, the car does not startup at all. The ignition fails to start up the engine. The AA recovery engineer could not startup the engine either. The car will be towed to garage tomorrow. 2 of the engineers so far have shown little knowledge of what the issue is and said it might need full engine reconditioning.

I am writing to check if anyone else had similar issues and what was the diagnosis and rectification? Should i send the car for full engine reconditioning (best quote is £5K) or take it a specialist who would know how to fix this issue.

I am based in West London and appreciate if there was any recommendation from past experience.
Thank you in advance.

Sound like it could be the chain and guide, bits of shrapnel blocking up the engine. It's expensive but I dont think £5000 maybe like £1000 -£2000 depends if the timing chain has come off entirely and damaged the engine

Thanks, would you have any BMW specialist you can recommend around West london who can do this? The last mechanic i took had a great review on google, but didnt help. Asking because the car has to be towed around, so limited on the number of garages we can visit.
