What exactly does ASC stand for>?

Is it the same as Traction control?

I just leave mine on the whole time, but im not 100 % sure what it does.

Try turning it off and go round a corner really fast.. Then see what happens:hihi.. Just kidding I believe it's automatic stability control.. Same as traction control :thumbsup

I thought it was 'active stability control'.

On BMWs, these systems are well calibrated, so when switchen on (they are always on unless you manually turn them off), they will let you have a little bit of fun before kicking in and saving your bacon.

looked though the list and cant see the one i have im my e38, the traction is on a button marked DSC, what does that one mean then, ??
