It strikes me that despite programmes like Top Gear being hugely popular, and despite all the specialist car magazines in the shops, not to mention all the various car club forums on the web, car owners are viewed largely by the media as THE new anti-social group.

Are we the 'new smokers'? Petrol tax, road tax, speed camera's, and general 'save the planet' tree hugging retoric attack us everyday.

But there is no real alternative to the car. And why should there be? I love my car, and i love cars. I don't hate the planet i just love cars. Why pick on me as a car enthusiast!?

So come on petrolheads. Have your say here.

Lol! Love it - absolutely right - we get stitched up every chance the government (whichever party, makes no difference) get, usually via our trash media that feed everyone their opinions (usually because most of the population are too lazy to think for themselves unfortunately). For what it's worth, I smoke & ride motorbikes too, so I'm probably a complete social outcast (or would be, if I actually gave a sh!t about other peoples opinions). Fact remains, we never get off our asses & do anything about it, so we're just as much to blame I suppose...

some of my relatives really make my piss boil on the subject of my car. My aunt for one at xmas. her "why don't you buy a hyundai i30, much cheaper than a bmw and cheaper on petrol" me "because i still have blood pumping round my veins and i don't want to be depressed everytime i get in my car, my weekly petrol bill is less than your weekly cigarette bill, did you think of that? also an i30 costs 11k my 5 series cost just over 3k you do the maths" her "a short silence before i'm going out for a fag"
I've done the ford and vauxhall thing and they breakdown, the only thing my bmw has needed in 10 months of ownership are plastic headlight adjusters and handbrake shoes

Good comment Hugo - I agree entirely. I am both (low MPG!) petrolhead and (loud) motorcyclist and have no issue 'swimming against the tide' of nanny society........
