Go into C:\EC-APPS\INPA\SGDAT and try running both DME338DS.ipo and DME338K2.ipo - they're both variants of the troublesome DME331.ipo...
No luck, I'm afraid. Same thing. Unless I find a file for Non EWS M50, it's DIS for me.

When doing the automatic identification, DIS says that it can't connect to the control unit and then lists the possibilities: It's a Non EWS car? Is the EWS working? and another one which I can't remember. So it's defo the EWS which is causing all troubles.

Fortunately, DIS can skip that and go into manual mode, in which will connect to everything. However, I noticed that it's a lot more slow when engine is running. And sometimes I get the data transmission disturbed error.

Unfortunately, INPA can't skip the EWS check, and I can't use it.

Anyways, case closed for now, I'm pretty much resigned with this. Thanks everyone for input! :thumbsup

That would be absolutely awesome if you could, mate! I'm almost sure that would fix the issue.

Update: interface definitely OK, tried it today on a 323i E36. INPA connects to absolutely everything, smooth sailing. So it's definitely a SW error, more to the point, the DME331K20.ipo.

FAL mate, if you can re-write that, modify it somehow to skip the EWS test, you'd make me and the whole horde of 325 owners everywhere pretty happy! Been reading a lot on this and apparently this is a very common problem with this file, all 325/525 non EWS owners abandoned hope and switched to DIS.

Try these. Add the .ipo file to C:\EC-APPS\INPA\SGDAT and the .prg file to C:\EDIABAS\ECU - https://www.rapidshare.com/files/3117026834/mistreku.zip

You, Sir, made me (and the rest of the non EWS 325's owners) pretty happy! INPA works now. Says something about version mismatch, I remember it was something easy to fix, but it WORKS! Thanks buddy, owe you big time for this one! Cheers!

Thanks, will have a play this weekend with it.
It will work, but I found DIS to be more useful for two reasons: it's more detailed, and live data works (even if it's rather slow). INPA will work to some extent, but live data values are rubbish.

Did you copy the .prg file into C:\EDIABAS\ECU AND .ipo into C:\INPA\SGDAT ? They should work regardless of the version of INPA you're running.

Just noticed your car is a '91 model. I presume it's the non vanos, so maybe that's why it's not working. It's a different ECU.

Yea, but you could put this the same way regarding the EWS, couldn't you? EWS/non-EWS, it's still a DME331. But somehow, it doesn't work unless someone modifies it. Not saying this is necessarily the problem, but it could be.
