Hi mate,

Ditto Payno & Thomson!

Just replaced my mate's nearside rear caliper two days ago. Same symptoms as yours, plus his disc was blue from the extreme heat! He's got a 2009 E93 with about 80k. We got an exchange caliper for ÂŁ120 from ECP. His old one had corrosion around the piston-mouth which was stopping it retracting properly.

Easy job, just remember to crack the 14mm brake-pipe union at the caliper before removing the 7mm allen-head pins that secure the caliper to the carrier. Also soak the hell out of that union with WD40 (the night before if possible). You can only get an open-ended spanner on that union and you don't want to risk rounding it off 'cos then you'll have to buy a brake pipe too and I'm pretty sure they're not available at motor factors - BMW only.
