hello all

The problem i have got is whilst driving on the motorway a metal sign blew off a lorry and i had to swerve violently to avoid it hitting my car.The following day when i started my car three warning lights came on,the dsc/xdrive light, the abs light and the dbc light. When you take the keys out leave it a short while and restart the engine the lights go out but sometimes come back after driving for a while. But if you stop turn the engine off wait a while start it up again they go back off . Has anybody had the same problems or know how to sort it out? thanks

You will need to have the fault codes read, it will most likely be a wheel speed sensor displaying a fault hence the light coming on, the codes can only be read with a diagnostic scanner, any good indy or BMW specialist will be able to read the codes for you :thumbsup

Thanks for this,I,ve booked it in with my local Bmw garage.I just hope it isn't an expensive fix.As well as the faults above, since the lights coming on/off, I have also noticed that sometimes when you stop the engine and remove the keys you can hear a clicking noise(for afew seconds) coming from what sounds as under the car.Do you think all these problems are linked?
I'm gutted more than anything due to the fact that my car was 3 years old a couple of weeks ago and all these problems have happened within 8 days of my warranty running out!

Thanks again

No its definately not the exhaust cooling down, its something else from under the car,but it has only started doing this since I've had the problems with the three lights coming on. Today I nipped out to the shop and all the lights came on the dashboard again. When I turned onto the bottom of the street (after reading that I have no 4 wheel drive, just rear no DSC or ABS) I decided to try it out. As I've come round the corner I've kicked down and there's definately no traction control as my back end was all over the road.

Thats what they call 'sods law' Im afraid :)

I would suggest getting the fault codes read and reset and seeing if that cures the problem.
it could have just tripped out the aforementioned systems due to a violent swerve and maybe an ECU reset will sort the problem.

Are you sure you havent started hearing the clicking noise since this incident?
and maybe it was there all the time...like the fuel pump

Dear all,
Thanks for your responses. Car now back from BMW. The fault was the actuator switch on the transmission. BMW gave me a good will gesture on my warranty. They paid 100% for the part (£409 +VAT) and 50% labour costs. Thought this was a bit of a result as you know how "by the book", main dealers can be! Glad it's finally resolved and the car is running perfect.
Thanks again for your responses.
