Hi All

The missus has a 55 plate 2.5i X3. Now i know its a rather large lump of an engine but the MPG on this thing is shocking. When i looked at the MPG OBC display it was showing 17.5MPG. Reset it and drove 130 miles on a day trip going at no faster than 70 mph on the Mway (cruise control stopped me from flooring it) and it averaged, 24MPG.......WTF :jaw-dropping Is this the sort of real world figures i should really be seeing? The fuel gauge is drawn to empty no matter how conservative she/or i drive.

Yes - doesn't sound too unrealistic. My old 330 used to do around the 30-32mpg mark and people always say that there's not that much difference between the 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0l lumps fuel-wise. Add on the weight and power sapping 4wd system and mid 20's sounds right.

Petrol 4x4's are never a great idea unless it's for performance (Cayenne S/Turbo, big petrol engined X5's etc). But hey, at least you've still got the classic I6 BMW howl :thumbsup
