Hello, new poster here.
I am looking at potentially buying a e34 525 tds manual. The car does however have 195k on the clock.
I know it will be a case of how well the car has been looked after but how strong is the the engine and components? At 195k is it best to walk away?

Thanks

On the TDS the diesel injection pump is the most expensive component to fix or replace. If this has been done and the car runs well, pulling strong through the gears then it might be worth a punt if cheap enough. If it runs lumpy or has no paperwork about the injector pump then walk away regardless of price.

Thank you very much for the info. Will find out about the pump then decide.
Guy is looking for ÂŁ1k but it is good spec.
I take it if the injection pump goes then it will need to be reconned because it is coded... Or am i wrong?

Thanks

BMW diesels (particularly at the lower end) seem to have huge asking prices. I used to have one of those and it was a good car. The only work I even had to do was to replace the glow-plugs when it started being reluctant to start. Much less complicated than the later diesels.

If it's as clean as it looks in the pictures, I think some people are being a bit mean with their evaluations (if!!). As usual, you have to make a judgement against all the 520 SEs there are about for much less money and E39s for not much more. Those diesels are ok on fuel but not mega so don't do anything silly just because it's a diesel :)

I was thinking about the petrol variants but just prefer the way a diesel engine drives. MPG isn't a massive issue for me.
The e39 is a lovely shape but the e34 just cuts it for me. It's either going to be an e34 saloon or a e36 touring.
