On depression of the clutch pedal there is a noise like a dry bearing, presumably this is the thrust bearing. The noise stops as soon as pressure is lifted a slight amount from the clutch pedal, but I suspect that although the clutch works properly with no indication of slip it is on the way out at 175000 kms. The only choice for me in this part of the world is the main dealer, does anyone know of the cost of clutch replacement for a 325xi? just so that I have my heart attack in stages! Thanks,Are

You're telling us the only place you can have a BMW clutch fitted in France is at the dealership? If do then you would be better asking them. Also, it's pretty normal for a throw out bearing to make noise.

Yes even the independent BMW specialists in this area who do servicing, are reluctant to anything that is slightly out of the ordinary. Perhaps in a major city that would be different. In the UK I found Peter Michaels to be excellent, but there is nothing like that here. I once took a 325i from France to Bolton for repairs.

The noise from the bearing is inconsistent, sometimes being loud and at other times being hardly audible. Thanks for your response, Are

If it's just bearing noise and not the clutch then I'd leave it for now until the clutch actually needs replacing. No good opening the car up just for a whiney throw out bearing.
