Hi,

I just bought BMW Series 1 (2015) with 245/35/18 summer tyres.
I want to travel through Germany and other countries where all winter tyres must be on in the winter period.
Before I bought my BMW I had Insignia, so I bought 4 winter tyres few weeks ago.

My question is: can I put 245/45/18 instead of 245/35/18 ?

1 winter 245/35/18 cost about £300 (4x300=£1200 - way too much)

Is there any risk ? I just need to put them for 2 weeks

Thanks,
Nela

You can put them on - the only difference is the rolling circumference will be increased so your speedo will be a bit inaccurate i.e. reading a bit high. The 45 refers to the sidewall height so overall the wheel and tyre diameter is greater and therefore the ciurcumference is too.

For two weeks you should be fine - use a phone app for more accurate speedo perhaps?

You can check the effect here Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit
