Yes it would as DRL and position lamp (sidelight) are the same lamp.
It is LED so not just a simple swap.
More likely the module than the LED itself I would think

No I don’t think the DRL is replaceable DIY, someone might say otherwise though.
Modules need coding they won’t be plug and play as there’s different lamp configurations.
You could try swapping module side to side just to see if DRL works?

Any sign of corrosion in the plugs at modules?

With mine I gave the terminals a good clean/scrape with small terminal screwdriver and a sewing needle to remove as much as possible and used plenty of electrical cleaner.
Mine was only nearside that had moisture in, I took lamp out to run some clear rtv round the joint so cleaned up while it was out.
Small smear of dielectric grease on plug and I got lucky as issues resolved and did not come back
