Hey guys, I’m new here and I’ve just signed up at 1am as I have trouble sleeping.

i just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience to what I’m going through right now, perhaps you guys have some words of wisdom. I don’t think anything can be said to make me feel much worse at this.

i bought an f10 m5 1 year ago, I was drawn to the fact it had full bmw service history and had extended warranty. It had been an approved used car and warranty had been renewed every year.

i extended the comprehensive warranty at a cool £2000 for peace of mind.

last week I got drivetrain error, so stopped car and called bmw assistance.

it seemed a little rough at idle, there was certainly a misfire.

within a day I got a call to say they were changing vanos solenoids, however this didn’t fix the car.

i had to give authorisation to go ahead with investigating each engine bank at £1500 a side which may or may not be covered by warranty.

after replacing lambda sensors and replacing a cat, they are now about to investigate the turbo and the bill is sitting at £8000.

i understand that even with a new car the warranty can be voided for various reasons and they must cover their back.

i’m racking my brain for a reason it might not be covered. I understand if car was modified or somethings been damaged by foreign object or if a mouse has chewed some wires, but I can’t see what would stop this from being a warranty case.

i spoke to someone from warranty and he was very pleasant and told me yes the bill is on the customer until there is evidence it is warranty, however he could see car has always been in warranty and never missed a service so at face value that the car has not been modified there shouldn’t really be anything to worry about, he didn’t quite say it like that and I realise they can’t promise anything.

I’m just bricking it as this bill is growing by the day and it feels like I’m at the casino betting my last dollar.
I can’t really see any other option but to hope everything is going to be okay. We are almost at half the value of the car and the problem has not yet been diagnosed.

I almost feel a little silly for thinking I could afford such a car. I realised servicing and warranty would be expensive but perhaps naively, I just didn’t see myself being in a position like this.

Thanks for reading

Sorry i can't help you on this subject.
What i don't understand is why BMW can't just fix a car.
Seen this many times they just keep changing parts until they get the faulty one.
But they then charge for all the parts they changed while they where guessing.

It does seem a bit like they have fired the parts cannon in hope of a resolution.
I would be asking them how they have got it to a bill of £8k and fault remains, they are supposed to have all the kit to accurately diagnose and repair these cars.
I certainly wouldn’t be paying them all that money on parts that have not fixed it and just leaving it there. See what happens but if they do sting you for the bits that didn’t need replacing make sure you get a full report off them so you can take it further

They build them but can't fix them good aren't they.
Anybody can keep swapping parts till they get the right one.
If i swapped a part and still had the fault i would put the old part back but BMW don't.
