Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything by searching.

As the title describes I have a 2007 (57 plate) 335i with i-Drive and USB interface. When I plug my ipod into the USB the idrive doesnt recognise it, but the ipod itself starts to charge, and displays 'Eject to disconnect'.

Can someone shed some light on the utilization of this feature, or why it may not be working.

Many thanks.

assume you're using the Y cable with your i-pod?
Hi Paul,

I'm not using the Y cable as I was not aware of it. Further reading has now enlightened me, thank you for your response.

Do you have to use official BMW y cables or are there replica's available.

Many thanks.

FYI - I have the 2010 E92 and successfully connect my IPOD and Iphone to the car using the standard USB cable supplied with them.

They have full functionality and charge normally.

Might be worth trying a BMW service centre before buying the Y cable????

the y cable is the standard bmw lead around £35 i think mine was but I could be wrong. The usb plug gives you the charging and i-drive functionality whilst the jack plug gives you the audio i believe. in any event, use the bmw cable and it's all fine !:)

One thing I forgot to mention is that the iPod is a 2010 generation nano. Could it be that the firmware in the i-drive is not compatible with newer models of iPod?
