If it's squealing sounds like it's tension could be loose. Can be caused by extra alternator load at start up by things such as heater, lights, windscreen de-ice etc

Rub some talcum powder on the drive surface of the belt until you get it looked at. Unless the belt is really slack it will stop the squeak and won't do any harm....

....apart from making your engine smell like lavender if you use the scented stuff!

Most likely a worn belt, get it checked out at a BMW independent specialists so any pulleys e.t.c can be ruled out and then have a new belt fitted. :)
