Hi all, looking for some advice or guidance on this one ? My 5 series has an annoying rattle from the drivers window / glass when driving over un-even road surfaces. My local dealer had a look as the car is still under warranty, but informed me that the noise is because the windows have been tinted ! Why is it then that its only the drivers window that makes thses noises ? Has anyone else experienced this before, or can you offer any advice ?

The dealer said it may stop if I smear vaseline around the window !!! :mad

Any help or feedback would be appreciated...:)

That to me sounds like a load of bollards:frown

How on earth can a film on the window cause a "RATTLE"

Perhaps they have disturbed something:confused

I personally would remove the door trim and take her for a spin to see if you can pin point the noise:thumbsup

How do you feel about doing this yourself?

Never heard so much sh*te. Dealers piss me off. This is a 2006 car under warranty. I'd take it back and tell them to check it properly and ask if it's the tints that cause it, can they let you hear another car on their forecourt do it.

Vaseline!:jaw-dropping. It would also stop if you jammed some cardboard down it:hihi

just make sure before you shout at dealer that no body work or other repair has been carried out on door.may be worth 40 quid at an independant just to check...

A20 RYM,

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. I also think that the dealer is trying it on. I think that as the car is still under warranty I am going to insist that the dealer does something, and I am not going to be " Mr happy customer " anymore...

I will post back with an update.

Cheers

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, I will get it checked.

Could you do me a favour and check the drivers window on your car ( i think its the same as mine ? ) When my window is half down, I can get hold of the glass and move it, does yours do that too ?

Thanks Mike for you help.

Cheers

Thanks for that, but its definetly the window, checked it by opening the window on a bad bumpy road and the noise goes !

Thanks for your advice, I will keep you all updated.

Cheers:thumbsup
I'm sure it is too but as someone mentioned it I thought I'd post the link to the thread in case. Good to have for future reference too:thumbsup

How long have you had the windows tinted and how long has the noise been present? I suppose it is highly likely that somebody has disturbed something that hasn't been picked up.

Personally, I would use an Independent BMW specialist:thumbsup

Rym,
The noise didn't start when I had the windows tinted, only about 2-3 months ago. Whats confussing me is that its only the drivers window that does it...I believe thats its the actuvator in the door is loose or out of alignmnet so the glass isn't held as tight as the other 3 windows ? Does that sound logical ?

Cheers

All,

Thanks for all your help and feeback on this question. Just thought that I would post an update to let you know that the noise has been GONE !!!:thumbsup

The cause of the problem.......wait for it .......A perished door rubber that had gone hard and was rubbing and shaking against the body of the car, when you travelled over bumps !. So there you go, problem solved, I am now once again a happy BMW driver !!:hihi

Glad to hear you got to the bottom of it, Where did you take it to find this out? Was it back to the Stealer or an Independent specialist?:thumbsup
