Hi all.
Newbie here hoping for some help. :)

recently acquired a 2005 535d tourer. 6 speed Auto, pre LCi however the previous owner was telling me that the gearbox ECU has been updateto the later LCi spec? Don’t know if this is even possible??

Anyway, the issue I am having is that when I am doing a steady speed and then lift off the accelerator and coast the revs seem to fluctuate up and down. Strangely when sport mode is selected, this does not happen. I was suspecting the torque converter, but the fact it does not do it in sport mode has thrown me a bit. Has anyone had any experience of this? Is it worth trying a gearbox reset as a first point of call?
Many thanks in advance guys.
Pete

It was done by quite a well know garage in Bristol called Avon tuning. They do a lot of work of BMWs including remaps etc. So I would be confident that it would be right from reviews I have seen a recommendations I have heard.
I will however get it checked for leaks this weekend.
After researching this quite a bit, it does seem as if the Torque converter is the likely culprit. ):

OP- I had very similar symptoms on my pre LCI 535d. Car revs would fluctuate by around 500rpm at steady speed but would be stable when selecting Sport mode. Reputable gearbox specialist confirmed worn torque convertor. It's been 8 months since having it replaced and fault hasn't returned.
