Hi there.
Had my 645 convertible for almost a year and now and then the an error message comes up on display to say the "soft top lock" isn't fully engaged and the LED between the roof buttons is flashing red. So normally I just press the button to bring the roof up and it locks everything down. However this doesn't work now. The boot is locked as is the rear window. I have checked the roof lock with the spanner that fits in the front of the roof and also checked the boot and the rear window but no joy. Anyone has this as this is the worst time to have this problem when finally get a bit of sunshine ?

You will be best to get the fault codes read at a good BMW Independent specialists or the Main dealers, this will give you a good idea of the problem, there's not alot of DIY items on the roof I'm afraid.

Thanks for your reply. Oddly enough today after it sitting in the hot car park it is absolutely fine with no errors at all. My concern is that the fault codes are going to show that the roof was not locked down rather than anything specific. But, it is now booked into the dealer to have another look at on Monday but not sure what they will be able to do without the error message still showing. Hmm...frustrating!

Even if the light isn't on the dash there will be a fault stored on the cars computer :thumbsup

It has gone into the dealer today with the light flashing. The log shows that I tried to open the roof at more than 50mph - which I didn't. Oddly enough the light came on randomly again whislt driving so I slowed down and pulled over and pressed the button to lock the roof down. THe roof then opened instead which was a bit random. But the dealer thinks that despite the flashing lights there is no problem - they are now going to chat to BMW GB about it - amazing really if they can see the error happening but have no idea. Also found out that after 13,000 miles my discs need changing - apparently this is "normal" but as i drive on motorways mainly I am going to look into this a bit more before shelling out the £500 +! I will post an update once roof is fixed...

I am having exactly the same problems with my car as well.
Its going into BMW to investigate on Tues.

Have you had any update or solution to your cars problems yet?

I have heard that the microswitches can go faulty causing the car to think the roof is open, but BMW's computer won;t specify which Microswitch it is???

Also, I had the rubber seal on my rear window split recently.It is not sold as a seperate part either,so yo uhave to buy the whole window to replace it.BMW are now recommending Wurth Rubber care to put on all the rubber seals etc to prevent splitting.
They have had a spate at our local Bmw Stealer(Dealer) and blame it on the hot weather and tree sap...

Car came back from Stealers.

Apparently, they had exact fault on another car, a week before mine..

Diagnostic machine and BMW states a "rotational sensor" is the cause of the fault...

Replaced at cost of £300 parts and labour...
