Hi peeps,

This is my first posting to this forum, so thanks in advance for any help on this one!...
Just got my 645 Ci (2005) on saturday and loving it, was a great day on the way home tonight after work with the roof off and the V8 singing in my ears!!

Anyway, to the point, I was reading in the manual that you should be able to use the open button on the key to bring the roof down? I don't know if I have a fault, the windows go down and the LED for the roof then flashes red??? Dunno if this is a fault or if I am doing something wrong...

Also can you code the key to remotely put the roof up, might be handy in summer when the car is in the car park and it starts to rain ;)

Anyway thanks!

I think the car can be programmed to put the roof up but it is set as a safety feature not to. A main dealer will be able to confirm this for you OR a good BMW specialist with a Autologic machine

Cheers guys,

I will ask the local specialist about the Autologic machine, not heard of those before.

Not to sure about the Comfort Pack, seems to have most of the options but it didn't come with original invoice / order.

hi mate,
got the same car myself and as has been said you cant put the roof up with the key but you can put it down . common mistake i make is to keep pressing the keyfob thinking everything is broken. only to realise the wife has been out and folded the hood storage thingy away to get a load of new shoes and nappys in.
alternatively i know someone who has a smarttop roof closure thingy.. check out ebay . type in smarttop , you should find it. if not get back to me

You can open the roof via the remote, you can only close the roof via the remote if you have comfort access. The roof will also open/ close from the key in the drivers door lock aswell.

On my 630i conv the remote key will lower the roof but will not put it up.
This seems to be confirmed in the manual.
On our previous Astra roof would go up and down remotely but only if you stood alongside the car, so a total waste of time

Exactly as the dealer told me this morning.

Hi All,

Just ordered the SmartTop from here:

http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod7...64----Z4--E89----MINI--R57--SmartTop-STLFBW1/

£315.49 inc delivery and vat. Seems the best price I could find it.

Installation instructions here:

http://www.wit-usa.com/sms/db/smarttop/ext/support/manuals/bmw/STLFBW1/install_6/en.php

Videos of it working here:

http://www.aftermarketbulbsshop.com/smartTOP-BMW-1-3-6-Series-Z4-MINI-p/stlfbw1.htm

Should be with me by Tuesday and hope to install straight away.

Best regards

Hi Tony,

Did you look at the installation instructions?

It seems so simple that it is hardly worth paying anyone else to do it for you. Will try and take a few photos and let you know how I get on.

Best regards

Hi All,

Installed the SmartTop in about an hour. Simple and no problems, works a treat.

Will upload photos of the process later this evening.

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on a forum of any sort. So be gentle with me :silly

I was going to have this Smart top put on to my 645 but apparently if you car is under the extended insured warranty (as mine is), this can be an issue. If something goes wrong with the roof, BMW will refuse to fix it under warranty as any electrical modifications are prohibited to moving parts.

So, if its under warranty then caution is advised otherwise enjoy the one touch open and close. It will def look great.

Cheers

good advice mate, but from what i understand the device can also be removed just as easy with no tell tail signs.

so if roof goes wrong, take out module, take to bm's get a free repair then back on with the module :cool
