Coolant pump replacement. It is very difficult to push the pump into place because of resistance from the rubber O ring, the fit is very tight. The last time the pump had to be knocked into place with a rubber mallet (lubrication with antifreeze diluted did not work), as this method may well damage the pumps bearing, is there a different way of doing this? If the holding nuts had enough bolt thread to start on it would help. Is there a suitable lubricant for the O ring? This is concerning as all of the technical write ups just say push the pump into place. Would it be ok to smear the O ring with engine oil? Thanks Are. ps concentrated antifreeze is not available here so that can't be used.
