just wondering if you can reset the service reminder yourself or does the car need to go to the dealer?

Bimmerforums search in this forum "service light reset" :thumbsup

• Ignition key must be “off”
• Press and hold the trip odometer reset button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position.
• Keep the button pressed until “RESET” begins to flash.
• Release button and press it again, the mileage should be reset.

You won't be able to change it on the dash until the minimum requirement has been reached(service due)
