Hi Everyone im Ainsley im new to here so i hope im doing this right, i have a bmw 320 cd (2004) its on 150k serviced every 6k from 100k full bmw history before.
I have a few problems which lead me to belive its my turbo but before i shell out my girlfriends wedding ring fund on a new turbo unit ;) i just wanted to put a quick post on here and see if you guys know for sure.

right here goes the symptoms.....
1)noisy turbo (i assume its turbo) gets louder when boosting,
2)loose in power not all the time though
3)lots of smoke after the car has been on tick over for 5 minutes or so then clears once moving after a mile or so.

im sure you will all tell me its obviously a turbo blown but i just want to make sure, if this is the case can you recommend a good priced replacement unit?

Thanks very much in advance!!!

Ainsley :thumbsup

Best thing as always is to simply get a full diagnostics on the car. It could be many things that are causing the problems. So find a bmw specialist near you or if you can go to Hounslow, call Jason on 07831 103030 as he will certainly be able to help you out.

Hi Thanks for the reply's so far, to answer the previous question the colour of the smoke is bluey white not completely white but has a blue tinge. theres plenty of it when you first accelerate away.

Another i forgot to mention it does use oil more than it ever has!

I should think yeh, once the seals are damaged thats it. I would check for play in the turbo and if it spins freely, just need to take off the intake pipe work. (from air filter turbo and give the spindle of the turbo a wobble and spin by hand)
SHOULD also look up swirl flaps if you don't know about them :thumbsup

i have just found a video clip on youtube of a bmw 320d with exactly the same smoke level on start up but more important the exact same "dump valve" type noise when the throttle is released.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THIS IS???? IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED

thanks in advance
