Hello,

I've recently bought a 2003 E46 320d Touring, It's not due a service for a few months as when I start it up it says 8500 miles Oil Service.

My question is if I take the car to be serviced at a non BMW or non specialist garage for a service, do they reset the indicator so that it shows me what type of service I need next and how many miles thereto?

Or should I pay the extra cost and go to a BMW/independant specialist?

Thanks in advance for the advice

The vast majority of non franchised BMW garages will have service interval reset tools in order to reset the service indicator correctly during a service.

You can always ask them if they will be able to reset the lights just to make sure.

So I should ask them first if they can reset the service when they do it - if they reset it, will the car then tell me how many miles until next type of service, eg at the moment it says 8500 till oil service, after the service will it then say x miles till whatever the next type of service is?

All garages should and will reset the service light after doing the work OR they haven't serviced it properly and it doesn't look good on them.

My boss had a Mercedes on lease from Merc, when he returned it they billed him for not servicing it, he told them he did it but "forgot" to stamp the book, they connected the computer to the car and told him he was lying as there was nothing on the onboard computer, then said "where's the money?" :lol

That taught him :hihi
