As the title says my 2003 525d has developed a strange metallic jingling noise which is only really evident at 1000 rpm, this is both when driving and stationary so is not related to drive train. Its there when its cold and hot. Seems a little more smokey than it should be under load but uses very little oil and still seems to be going well. Anyone got any ideas as im a bit stumped lol....

Can you ascertain from what area?

Engine?
Exhaust?

No noise when revved up when stationary?

very difficult to pin point, noise is there when stationary as well as moving, comes in at just before 1000rpm and is gone just after 1000rpm, I was wondering if this was a noise from the catalyst? Could it be timing chain tensioner? Maybe at worst turbo?

I would suggest getting the car up on axle stands then have someone rev the car at the point you can hear the rattle then have you or a friend dive over the car listening for where the rattle is from, :thumbsup

It is the same as a garage will do

got to the bottom of it. it was the exhaust flexi joints rattling at the front. thanks for the help!
