Is there any way to do it propely? Its still backlit when you hit the "display off" function...

You could be right, I'm just not 100% sure if its model specific

Same on E90/91/92/93. Turn the screen off and the backlight is still there.

no idea how it could be done, sorry. Pull out the fuse?

You'll be turning off the whole "i-drive" display which I think is (deliberately) not possible because of warning and or safety msgs. i.e. ice alert, RFT low pressure etc. Red
