Just got in my car after work and it is running on 5 clyinders and the engine light has come on but it says for that sign in the book: "Exhaust emisions values have deteriorated..etc". I cant understand what the problem could be as it was perfectly good on the way to work and the car has only done 33K
any ideas?

hi there

sound like a ignision coil or spark plug failure. you can check you self. need just 10mm socket, extension(mid., long) and 16mm spark plug socket
easy to do

Just had a look at the car again and it sounds like there is an air leak round by the air box/inlet manifold area, has anyone had any experence of this problem

just check a hose from air flow meter to inlet. if it does have a cracks, you sorted out problem your self.
P.S. Driving should be very lumpy

As for your car problem, will need fault codes reading but may be coil pack failure as mentioned or split inlet pipe.

It was a coil pack got a set on order should be fixed today i hope.

My car was running on 5 cylinders the other day when i first fired the engine up but was fine after 2 minutes...not happened since but coils may be on their way out

Out of interest, how much would a set of 6 ignition coils cost?

My previous Audi always had this problem...thats the reason why i changed it for my bmw coz i've never really experienced problems with bmw's in the past :thumbsup
