Hello,

Quick question, I own a 2002 M3 Convertible, SMG. Every now and again while Im driving it the number on the dash that indicates what gear you are in constantly flashs, what does this mean and will it result in a big problem?

Any help would be great.

One of the main reasons for this on a vert would be that the hood is not closed properly. Next time this happens, then try and close the hood properly before further investigation into micro switches.

Deep-ends on when it flashes. If it goes to 0 and flashes then yes, it's most likely to be the bonnet sensor. If it flashes between gearchanges, especially going into 3rd and at higher revs- above about 4500, then it's most likely to be one of the indent springs. They're not expensive, but some of them are a pain in the ar$e to get to.

Exactly when does it happen?

Cheers
JM
