hi all,my names pete,and have just recently joined your forum,brill.any one got any ideas where i go from here.my 2.5i bmw today showed this little yellow light,looked in book,and it is the exhaust emission values have deteriorated.where do i go from here guys,is it still ok to drive fro a wek or so,like this,dont want to hurt the thing.any help would be greatly appreciated.cheers.

Hi Pete, welcome to the forums. You'll be in good hands here. :)

i wouldn't drive it too far with the light on, there are numerous things that could bring on that light, and some of them, if not attended to, can potentially cause more danage, especially to your catalytic converters etc, which are mega expensive.

First thing I'd do is get the codes read, at least then you'll know what's actually wrong.

How many miles? Could be a lambda probe gone bad. Does it idle/drive ok? No misfires/rough idles or down on power?

thanks for reply,the car is running just fine,no loss of power at all,idles lovely,runs just great as it has always done,just this orrible light came on,milage is just under 75000,cheers

fault codes are your friends.

get them read from an independent bmw specialist and that will point you in the direction of the cause.

car fixed yipeeeeeeeeeeee

phoned the independant garage recommended,by this forum site in dorset this morning,missus took the car in,straight on the diagnostics,fault came up,cat dirty,garage treated with something called catclean,told to run the car hard for whats left in the fuel tank,and hey,car is just fine,brilliant.what a great brilliant garage that was,friendly,polite,knowledgable and with no hanging aroung,would recommend them to any bmw user.thanks for the advice guys yesterday.
