Hi,

I seem to have developed an intermittant problem with my e46.

If I drive a long way, then leave the car for half and hour or so, get back in and carry on driving, a problem occurs. If I try to accelerate quickly, the power will drop off suddenly for half a second, the car will jolt, and I get check engine light and also and EML light as well.

OBDII codes are P1638 Throttle Valve Position Control; Throttle Stuck Temporarily, and also generic code P0221 Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Range/Performance Problem.

Does anybody know if this throttle sensor is a big job to fix, or even what it is or where it is? Or perhaps just a job from BMW, although I'd rather not.

Thanks,

Matt.

i think you have to change the whole throttle body the sensor is built into it, tis classic iffy throttle body and sensor symptoms..

its not actually mega expensive tho but not ridiculously cheap...circa 250-300 quid

when it really packs up you will end up with just idle and it wont rev at all it will just cut back to idle again and may idle bounce a bit aswell...
