morning all, i have aproblem with the trip distance reset button, it dnt work, any surgestions why and i can rectify the problem.

How are you trying to reset it?

Are you holding the button down fro a few seconds?

Mornin A20 RYM, it dont work at all, it wont rest the trip distance and i cant get into the OBC because its not working. The first time i filled up i the when i got it i wanted to reset the trip distance, like i always used to do on my old car and didnt work, key in postion 1 or beyoned and depress to reset trip distance nothing! i even tried the OBC by holding the button(10 or so sec) and turning the key nothing.

The button on the end of the indicator stalk work to toggle the OBC functions?

hey ronnie, yeah it works fine no problems. just the trip reset button that dont work.

It may be a cluster problem then, has the button never worked since you have owned the car?

i`ve had the car for nearly 2 weeks, and it not worked, it must have been reset just before i got it because it read only 12mls.
there are a few things wrong with the car, but i knew that when i got. the only elecy probs are trip reset and the outside temp sensor is missing, the rest is just body work.

ok i just got the outside temp sensor sort and thats working fine, its just he trip reset button to get sorted now.

i also got a qoute for the bodywork and respray(not the whole car), 1st was £350 and 2nd was £665.

Hi Mate,
There are two switches that stick out of the plastic clear instrument cluster, push the one in on the left for a few seconds( petrol gauge side) and that should work! i was thron by the position of the reset too, my first bmw:lol

only trying to help! i did read your post but, i have two reset buttons on my coupe cluster, one on the right and one on the left, perhaps our cars are different lay out??? anyway good luck in sorting it out

Hi there, I have the same problem with the trip reset! I've got a 53 plate 320d and every other OBC function operates 100% ok, I can scroll through the functions using the left hand stalk. It too was working when I picked up the car as it was only showing 15 or so miles.
I've tried holding in the left hand reset switch for several seconds, held it in and turned ignition on but still no joy.
Has anyone out there had this fault fixed?
My colleague has a VW bora and he has used a VAG com lead to his laptop to check all his instrumentation, does BMW have an equivalent type of diagnostic, sorry DIY or specialist only as i can't afford dealer prices.
