2002, E39, 530D intermittent electrical fault (FIXED)

Hi guys looking for some advice please. I have an intermittent electrical fault whereby the following things stop working. Audio controls on steering wheel, cd changer in boot, central locking, clock on dash, indicators on instrument panel, however the indicators still work on outside of vehicle. The only way I can cure at the moment is to disconnect battery for an hour. All help appreciated. Thanks in advance

First thing to do is check the wiring that goes from the cabin to the bootlid. It is common (especially on older models) for wires to break/split and make contact with each other within the protective rubber sheath.

This can cause all sorts of obscure symptoms. Just peel back the rubber sheath and carefully inspect all of the wires individually:thumbsup

Checked wiring this morning as posted, not found anything unusual. Have recoded car as adaptive central locking not working, when I read the coding first, it was supposed to be. Will monitor situation and see what happens. Did even think it might be an earth problem.

I think you have a ignition switch problem, I would be looking into the electrical switch on the rear of the barrel

I noticed this last night when reading another thread and I think Ronnie could well be right:thumbsup

They are a known problem on e39s, have a word with the dealers :thumbsup

Ok guys still having problems intermittently so have changed ignition switch. Still get error codes for Inst. cluster, ZKE, LCM, CVM. Using c***oft 6.5 to diagnose and clear. Never had problem in past clearing faults. Any Ideas Thanks

Even with the switch changed your having problems? :frown

What are the error codes? post them up including numbers

Had confirmation today by independent specialist that there is a problem on k-bus, they reprogammed instrument cluster, no joy, but couldn't communicate with LCM, most probably a broken wire somewhere. Any Ideas would be helpful.

From the sounds of it you will need to get a Auto Sparky to have a look :frown

Don't know what to suggest as electrics aren't my strong point

Anybody know where the K-Bus terminal Block connector is (E39) as I could test with Multimeter from there by removing one wire at a time. Thanks

the CD changer in the boot - Are the connections OK there? No dampness or anything

Boot is bone dry and its p***ing down at moment. Could disconnect cd and see if it makes a difference. Will let you know.

Disconnected Cd in boot and disconnected battery for 20mins, Reconnected battery without cd player to clear stored faults, still a problem .

For anybody wanting to know the lcm module is located behind the kick panel on right hand side of drivers footwell. Took some searching but found in end.

Thanks guys, still no joy. I can communicate with Instrument cluster, still showing K-Bus error, but LCM not responding (no communication) is this broken wire/bad connection or is it likely to be LCM fooked.
