Hi people, having problems with my timing. I replaced the engine oil and filter 0w30 and when I started it the engine was idling very rough-off a cylinder. I removed the rocker cover and found the chain guide between the cams fractured and I think the timing has jumped.is this a common fault? How can I check the timing? What caused this? What type of damage could it have done? My car has around 110k on it

I would advise you have the car transported straight to an Independent BMW specialist.

The chain shouldn't have jumped a tooth if the guide is still complete but it requires urgent attention.

Common on those rubbish engines, you do like mentioned need to get the timing looked at :thumbsup

One of the worst engines BMW built unfortunately IMO and BMW Techs.
