I fully agree wit the view that there's no such thing as "lubricated for life" - unless you refer to a life as defined by an accountant - 3 to 5 years - which this most probably apply to. Engine oil on a diesel - I would say max 7500km (personally I replace every 5000km with mixed driving)....my dad used to replace short distance diesel's oil every 2500km and never had engine failures in his life despite keeping vehicles for 5+ years and using it for farming and a lot of dirt road traveling.
Having said that - I want to replace both gearbox and diff oil on my newly acquired 2001 530D, as I do with any vehicle that passes through my greasy hands.
Anybody know what the oil specs are? Or should I just go for the highest spec synthetic I can lay my hands on?
